Overview
Building the Digital Backbone for Stress-Free Wedding Planning

BigDayMade is a comprehensive mobile planner designed to transform the chaotic process of wedding organization into a structured, enjoyable journey. While the wedding industry is filled with inspiration-only platforms, BigDayMade bridges the gap between "dreaming" and "executing."

Our challenge was to take an existing, underperforming application and perform a total redesign and functional overhaul. We reimagined the platform to serve as a high-end digital concierge that connects future newlyweds with a curated network of venues, photographers, and specialists, ensuring every detail is managed within a single, intuitive interface.

Redesigning the Path to "I Do": Overcoming Planning Friction

Wedding planning is notoriously stressful, often requiring couples to manage dozens of vendors across fragmented platforms. The client came to us with an initial product that lacked the necessary flexibility and clarity to support users through this high-pressure lifecycle. Our primary task was to reduce the cognitive load on the couple by creating a digital environment that guides them step-by-step.

We moved away from a static checklist approach to a dynamic, location-aware system that adapts to the user's specific needs, style, and budget, turning a complex logistics puzzle into a seamless, manageable experience.

What we did?
Integrated Ecosystem and Planning Intelligence

We redesigned the core mobile experience to include:

  • A location-based discovery engine for venues and vendors with integrated map and gallery modes.
  • A categorized marketplace for professionals ranging from florists and caterers to dance instructors.
  • A smart "Plan" module with automated checklists that calculate task priority based on the wedding date.
  • Collaborative "Collections" that allow couples to share inspirations and research with friends and family.
  • A comprehensive design system that ensures visual consistency across all vendor statuses and user stories.
How we did it?
Discovery-Led Redesign and Lifecycle Mapping

To stand out in a saturated market, we focused on "usability through simplicity." We began with a thorough investigation of existing user flows to identify where the previous version of the app caused friction. By mapping out every potential user story-from the first venue search to the final payment for the florist-we built a concise information architecture.

This groundwork was crucial for developing wireframes that support high-density information without feeling cluttered. During the UI stage, we established a clean visual language that appeals to a premium target audience, ensuring the app feels as sophisticated as the event it helps organize.

Working process
Architecture Refinement and UX Validation
Information Architecture and Lifecycle Mapping
Our process started with a complete immersion into the wedding organization lifecycle. We reorganized the app's structure to prioritize the most relevant content-Venues, Vendors, and Feed-based on the user's progress. We focused on creating a "concierge" feel, where the app suggests the order of tasks and calculates completion times. This required a robust back-end logic for the checklist system, ensuring that the UX remains flexible enough to support various wedding styles, from small intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations.

Iterative Testing and Human-Centric Refinement
To validate our design choices, we implemented a multi-stage testing process using UserBob. We didn't wait for the final UI to be finished; instead, we tested sections of the app one by one as interactive prototypes. This allowed us to observe real-world interactions and identify subtle usability issues early in the design phase. By analyzing how users navigated through the vendor filtering and task management modules, we compiled a list of improvements that were directly implemented into the final design, ensuring a high level of user confidence and ease of use.
Outcome
A Validated Product Ready for Market Leadership

The final stage of the project involved the delivery of a production-ready Figma ecosystem. This included a fully documented design system with all components, states, and statuses accounted for. We provided the client with high-fidelity prototypes that had already been validated through several rounds of user testing, significantly reducing the risks associated with a post-launch redesign.

The handoff to the development team was supported by detailed documentation of the information architecture and user flows, ensuring that the "human touch" we added to the UX remained intact during the final implementation.

Results
Transforming Stress into a Managed Experience

The redesign successfully shifted BigDayMade from a basic utility app to a premium lifestyle tool. By focusing on emotional design and operational clarity, we achieved the following:

  • A human-centric UX that significantly reduces the perceived stress of the planning process.
  • Enhanced vendor visibility through an intuitive, category-based discovery system.
  • Improved user retention via a collaborative planning feature that engages the couple's social circle.
  • High engagement rates within the interactive checklist and collection-sharing modules.

"We were really happy with the final product. Cre8 Team was a responsive team with a clear plan to manage the project. They were affordable and had high standards. The design prototype has shown promise in 8 different guided research sessions with prospective users." - Ian Cornwal, CEO @ BigDayMade
